There are some good distance learning courses on offer - try the Australian Catholic University or others that offer teaching qualifications which are recognise by accreditation boards/state education insititutes across different states....

Hi there,
like you I am extremely frustrated by the lack of recognition for the GTP. However, I would also like to bring to your attention that whilst the GTP is not recognised in Scotland, they have now decided that the PGCE will not be accepted unless you have trained across both Key stages in Primary. In effect this means that you would need to complete a PGCE for both upper and lower primary as in Scotland, Teacher training requests that you have experience from 4-12 years.
This now means that people ...

Nina
Thanks for your reply. I am doing the OU PGCE with the Open Uni BUT the fees I am being charged are ridiculous. The OU say the TDA are making them treat me as if I were an overseas student. Is this the same for you?

Any info you can give me will be gratefully recieved as I am putting in a formal complaint to the TDA and also using the union.
Thanks

I am doing a MA in Maths education and as long as I had QTS they were not bothered.

I have a GTP and want to move to Scotland so find myself having to do a PGCE which is insanely expensive. My point is that there is meant to be no difference in GTP and PGCE accoring to the TDA. There obviously is looking at your situation.

You should take your rejection letter to your Union. I've also taken my situation to the NASUWT to challenge the TDA. I feel like a second class teacher because of all the extra ho...

UPDATE: I haven't had much luck finding cheap or fast Dip Ed courses in Victoria, as training as an international student is very costly. However, I have been given Permission To Teach (PTT) for the second year running. My school have said they are happy to fill in the paperwork once a year in order to keep me on, which bodes well....

Has anyone thought of applying to International Schools? There are around 3000 across the world including lots in Australia and I think they accept QTS reached via any route???? Let me know if you find any further info on them!

I'm currently completing my NQT year after training through GTP last year. I'm considering moving to OZ and would love the opportunity to teach there for a while. I don't want to move to Oz unless I have a good job to go to and am therefore a bit stuck as my qualifications won't be recognised. This website has been encouraging to me as I don't feel I'm the only one in this prediciment! I'm not sure exactly how I can help support the website but would be sad to see it go-if we all pull together we might find...

One of our former trainees had been on touch with me. She qualified through GTP some years ago, and has been teaching in the East, including (I think) Vietnam and Hong Kong.
She has moved to NSW looking to settle down, but they will not accept her as a qualified teacher.
I sent Prof Foreman a four page letter pointing out the error of his ways,...

I decided to apply for an MSc in Education. I have a GTP and several years teaching experience. I have just received a rejection letter stating the reason is because I did a GTP, and not a PGCE.

This is ridiculous for so many reasons. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Nina - my apologies - of course you can't register with GTCS as you have a GTP not PGCE.

I will also add that the rubbish they talk about not being academically rigorous is laughable.

Before I looked into it, I was doing a Masters in Education - NO ONE (Scotland or Oz) are interested, they are only interseted in verifiable (ie from a uni) teacher practise in a school.
Cheers
