It's not just Oz and NZ 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have just found out that as I have a GTP I am not qualified to teach in Scotland!!

I looked into doing a PGCE through the OU but NO university will accept me as I hold QTS!! Good catch 22 !

I have spoken to my union and headteacher who is livid about the whole episode. Legal action may be my only hope!!!

Does anyone know how to gain an internationally recognised teaching qualification while living in Engalnd?

I can't believe your story! That is so stupid!
I m struggling in British Columbia, Canada. They are not accepting GTP either. They say I have to go back to school for 1.5 yrs to become accredited! I need to earn money not spend it! The BC College of Teachers have given me a month to dispute it, but I feel as so many other people have been turned down, my case is extremely weak.
Anyone else trying to teach in BC?

Hi Dawn,
I have had similar problems and called numerous universities to see if I could complete a PGCE in addition to my GTP. I was offered a 'bespoke package' that would cost at least the same as PGCE training. I am just hopeful that with pressure from other GTP trainees that eventually the GTP will be recognised in its own right!! Good luck

Thanks for your reply. I am doing the OU PGCE with the Open Uni BUT the fees I am being charged are ridiculous. The OU say the TDA are making them treat me as if I were an overseas student. Is this the same for you?

Any info you can give me will be gratefully recieved as I am putting in a formal complaint to the TDA and also using the union.
Thanks
Dawn

Hi there,
like you I am extremely frustrated by the lack of recognition for the GTP. However, I would also like to bring to your attention that whilst the GTP is not recognised in Scotland, they have now decided that the PGCE will not be accepted unless you have trained across both Key stages in Primary. In effect this means that you would need to complete a PGCE for both upper and lower primary as in Scotland, Teacher training requests that you have experience from 4-12 years.
This now means that people who complete the PGCE route will also not be able to apply for registration with the GTC Scotland. You can imagine how offended the Universities were when I informed them that like the GTP they were no longer recognised. One of the Universities did offer to create a BESPOKE training package for me but they could not guarantee that I would be awarded QTS for this as I already have Qts status. It really is mind boggling but I do wonder if Australia and other countries will follow suit and refuse PGCE as well as GTP.
I hope that this has not added to your confusion - my advice is to keep e mailing people and find out what the current situation is - it appears to change all the time
Good Luck
Nina
