Letter to Teaching Unions |

 The first letter to be sent to Australian and New Zealand education teaching unions has just been drafted. But before it can be sent it must be edited and approved by you, the supporters of the campaign for recognition.

Teach First praised by Ofsted |

 Teach First, a workplace-based teacher training programme based in London has been praised in a recent report by Ofsted.
Teach First is a programme that seeks high achieving graduates and places them for 2 years in challenging schools. The programme includes specialist leadership training and results in QTS but, like the GTP, no tertiary qualification. The report released in January noted:
- Half of the 2006 cohort achieved the Standards for QTS at an outstanding (the highest) level, while some "were judged by inspectors to be amongst the most exceptional trainees produced by any teacher training route."
- At least one Teach First school "attributed a rapid improvement in its standards almost entirely to the contribution of Teach First participants."
- Described the participants as having had "a markedly beneficial impact on the schools involved."
- Participants staying in their schools a second year or more were "starting to have a notable impact, for example, in transforming underperforming departments."
- The "central management of the programme was exceptionally strong. The commitment to improving the programme and building on its success was impressive."
The Teach First scheme is proof of the merits of workplace-based teacher training. We hope to have Teach First trained teachers join our site and fight for their entitlement to teach abroad along with GTPs.
